Results are pouring in from across the US and all focus is on the key battleground states that will decide the election.
Mr Trump has been projected to win Florida, Ohio, Texas and Iowa and there are tight races under way in Arizona, Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Georgia.
So far, Mr Biden has 224 electoral college votes and Mr Trump has 213. To win the presidency 270 votes are needed.
But it may be a day or more until we know the final result, as nine states are yet to be projected. The full list along with the number of electoral college votes they carry is:
- Alaska - 3
- Arizona - 11
- Georgia - 16
- Maine - 4 (split into 2 statewide and 2 district votes)
- Michigan - 16
- Nevada - 6
- North Carolina - 15
- Pennsylvania - 20
- Wisconsin - 10
