Cambodian Premier says his salary barely tops 1,100$

PHNOM PENH, April 1 Kyodo - Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen said Friday his basic monthly salary is 4.6 million riel ($1,150), and he owes money to no one.
The prime minister revealed his salary and lack of debts to the public for the first time while appearing at the Anti-Corruption Unit to declare his assets.
But Hun Sen added that although his salary is low, many of his expenses are covered by the state.
He did not, however, reveal what the expenses he incurs as prime minister are.
Under Cambodian law, personal documents or assets declared to the anti-corruption commission do not need to be made public unless the chair of the commission decides to do so during investigation of
corruption charges.
Om Yin Tieng, chairman of Anti-Corruption Unit, said that as of the end of March this year 11,329 people had already declared their assets.
There are 24,854 officials from 37 institutions, including politics, the civil service, the military, the police and the judiciary, that must declare their assets by April 7.
Those who fail to declare face between a month and a year in prison.
Asset declaration is required in every two years.
Anyone found guilty of graft can be jailed for up to 15 years.
