More Khmer Rouge genocidal evidence go Cambodian
Phnom Penh (VNA)- The Cambodian Database Centre has received 364 photos and a host of documents illustrating Khmer Rouge crimes against Cambodian and Vietnamese people in late 1970s, from Vietnam .
The pictures were taken by Vietnamese journalists and troops during their marches into the neighbouring country to help liberate it from the genocidal regime, said centre director Chhang Du.
Among those pictures are some featuring the Toul Sleng prison, dubbed S21, badly known for its brutal crimes. Also handed over to the centre were documents about Khmer Rouge attacks and damages against Vietnam’s Tay Ninh province in October, 1977.
The centre chief said the pictures and documents provided by Vietnamese individuals and agencies have reflected, though very little, a short period of the Cambodian history, and helped people understand what was happening under the Khmer Rouge regime.
Du added that they also acted as vivid evidence in a trial against Khmer Rouge leaders for their crimes against Cambodian people from 1975-79.
The database centre has not been given a mandate to provide these documents as evidence for the tribunal and could do it on receipt a request from the court. (VNA)
