Lawyers in Khmer Rouge trial meetings
ABC: Updated
The long-awaited trials of the Khmer Rouge leaders are reaching a crucial stage in Cambodia..
Lawyers will meet today and tomorrow to thrash out the details of how the first trial will be run. The first defendant is Kaing Khek Iev, also known as Comrade Duch, who is expected to be tried in the coming months. He was head of Phnom Penh's notorious Tuol Sleng prison where thousands of people were detained, tortured and then sent off to the "killing fields" to die. While some victims are keen to see justice done, many ordinary Cambodians would rather see the time and the money spent improving their lives.
Presenter: Karen Percy
Speakers: Bruno Carette, Paris-based film maker
